Vicinity map of davao city8/28/2023 ![]() The chef prepared for us a sumptuous and tasty meal. With him are his two stunning daughters who personally serve the customers too. The French owner of the restaurant was there to talk with the diners, introduce the food and made sure that we were having a good time. The friendliness and helpfulness of the waitstaff is very noticeable and they treat you like you've been there not as first timer, but as a regular patron. With just a few tables, you can be assured that there will be no crowds and no unneccesary noise. Upon entering the place, one can feel its warmth and exclusivity. Prices for food and wine are reasonable for such a fancy restaurant and the quality of the ingredients, however, service and consistency of the food could and should be improvedĪn intimate French Restaurant located at the far end of Torres Street in Davao City. ![]() The biggest disappointment was the aforementioned foie gras which i'd really been looking forward to, but which simply didn't work for me. I really enjoyed the salmon sashimi, the glazed pork belly and the japanese cheesecake. The food at the White House is interesting and creative, Japanese-Mediterranean fusion, and it's obvious that the young chef is talented and bold, even if not all dishes worked well (foie gras and blue cheese don't go together well). Again, this should not happen, if you don't have a clue, don't make recommendations.Īnyway, we finally ordered our food, one menu 'Alsace', salmon sashimi and the trio of foie gras (let me check if this is available first, sir.hum). Problem solved, customer happy.īut here the clueless waitress suggested me a bottle with completely different characterics than the one i asked for. It started pretty bad when my choice of wine (one of the house wines) was not available. This should not happen in a restaurant with high ambitions.īut in a real fine dining restaurant with a good management, had such a faux pas occured, it would have been fixed by a complimentary upgrade to the next bottle of the same grape and country of origin. The atmosphere is excellent, but for everything else, from service to food, there's still room for improvement. The White House is a beautiful restaurant in a heritage building with a show kitchen and all the trappings of a fine dining establishment. Nevertheless, the existance of a gem like Claude's in this remote, underappreciated city is very appreciated. The house wine is good but at a hefty 1150 Php it better be and there are no better value new world wines on the menu. The only negative thing i could say about Claude's is that the wine list exclusively French and therefore bad value. Service is competent and attentive, a rarity in this country, and Claude himself watches over everything. And i found the other items on his menu reasonably priced for the quality offered. The foie gras at Claude's is small and pricy but truly sublime, certainly one of the best i've had in the Philippines. It's such a pleasant surprise to find authentic, classy French food in this little corner of the world.ĭuring the holiday season Claude offers some really rare treats such as calve's head or couscous royale (with delicious merguez) on top of his standard menu. It's a beautiful and tasteful oasis in a dusty, chaotic area of town.Īnd the beauty of it all, the quality of the food actually matches the surroundings. Highly detailed yet user-friendly mapping for easy navigation in and around Davao City proper, as well as adjacent Samal Island, home to the luxurious Pearl Farm Beach Resort.Claude's Café de Ville is a magnificent restaurant housed in an old mansion right in the busy city centre.
